We have been raising Icelandic sheep since 1994. We are grateful to Stefania Dignum the woman who brought us this wonderful breed of sheep from Iceland. Sadly Stefania passed away in 2007- much to soon as she had just done her own AI and was awaiting some exciting results. Luckily the offspring of her many years of breeding these sheep lives on in flocks across North America. Our first sheep came from Barbara Webb, of Jager Farm in Massachusetts, the woman who brought the sheep to the US. Barb has never lost her enthusiasm and devotion to this breed and keeps up one of the best Icelandic flocks in NA through her continued AI work and preservation of various bloodlines. Our next purchase came from Canada and Stefania. We were grateful to have met her and really see how she ran her farm, how she knew all the sheep by name and genetic background and her stories of what she went through. We also got many tips on the fiber part of Icelandic sheep- from the best wheels and carders for Icelandic wool to the diversity of products that can be created from their wool. We continue to keep a small flock of mostly horned sheep that we have bred for improved fleece, conformation, and ease of lambing and hardiness. Our sheep must work for us- grazing and fertilizing pastures, clearing land, and producing wool and other valuable products.
